Vintage Wedding Cake & More – Weekly Round-up

It’s been another busy week here at Candy’s Cupcakes HQ. Have a read at what I’ve been up to this week.

Wedding Cake

I have been fortunate enough to work with the Hazelnut Bakery over the past few months making a number of wedding cakes. This week I made a stunning vintage style wedding cake designed by Hazel that incorporated roses, beads and ruffles. I thoroughly enjoyed making this cake along with 75 heart shaped cake pops wrapped in cellophane and tied with lace. The bride and groom each had a cupcake to set them apart from their guests. The cake was set up at the most stunning location I have been to yet, The Saddleworth Hotel. Set in a grand hall with shiny black granite floors and ornate wooden walls the cake took centre place.

Christening Cake

This week also saw another christening cake, this time a spotted 3 tier baby blue cake made with lemon, carrot cake and chocolate sponges (three of my all time favourites).

Birthday Cakes

Another extremely popular theme for 2014 is the film Frozen. I was fortunate enough to make a 2 tier cake with all the characters placed around the cake. The best part of making this cake was seeing the birthday girls face when the cake was collected. Makes it all very worthwhile.

With the UK weather taking a welcomed turned for the better it was a pleasure to make a 2 tier cake to reflect this. Being a vegetarian, I found it quite amusing that I should be making fondant sausages, steaks and kebabs. The cake was for a 60th celebration for a man who enjoys BBQ’s and a round of golf.

My final cake of the week (my forte) was a giant cupcake with the theme as Hulk. I made a fondant Hulk fist to go on top of the cake which was surprisingly quite tricky to get accurate. I often get asked how to make a giant cupcake therefore I have decided to make a picture tutorial using the Hulk cake as the example. Look out for this coming soon.
